Göreme is a town built among fairy chimneys, and this route follows the scenic road from the village square to the UNESCO World Heritage Open-Air Museum. Rock-cut dovecotes, vineyards and valley mouths line the way. At the museum you explore rock churches decorated with 10th-century frescoes. Walk early in the morning and the hot-air balloons accompany the whole route.

    The centre of the village; the route climbs from here towards the museum road.

    A monastic complex carved into the rock; the frescoes of the Dark Church are the best preserved in the region.

Getting There

Göreme's bus station is on the village square, with frequent minibuses from Nevşehir and Ürgüp. The museum has an entrance fee.
