Old Tokyo: Asakusa to Ueno Park
Away from the skyscrapers, Tokyo's old "shitamachi" low-town still lives, and this route runs through its heart. It begins under the giant red lantern of Senso-ji, moves through the traditional stalls of the Nakamise arcade, marvels at plastic food models on Kappabashi Kitchen Town and ends among the museums of Ueno Park and the post-war market bustle of Ameyoko. In spring, Ueno's cherry blossoms transform the whole walk.
